IIM Membership Categories

IIM Patron, Donor & Sustaining Membership Categories for Organizations & Individuals
Category Eligibility Criteria
Patron Any Company, Institution, Government Department, Corporation or individual, connected with the metallurgical industry, education research, will be eligible to be elected as Patron Members.
Donor Any Company which satisfies the qualification for a Patron Member, but whose annual turnover is less than Rupees five crores will be eligible for this class of membership.
Sustaining (Large Scale) Shall be individual, companies, corporations, firms, industrial or trade associations or such other organisation as the Council may deem as properly coming under this classification.
Sustaining (Small Scale) Shall be individual, companies, corporations, firms, industrial or trade associations or such other organisation as the Council may deem as properly coming under this classification.
IIM Membership Categories for Individuals
Category Age Eligibility Criteria
Honorary Open A person of distinction in technology or Public Service, admitted by the Council of the Institute with reference to each individual case.
Fellow Open A candidate for admission to the class of 'Fellow' shall be a person of eminence in the profession who has significantly contributed in metallurgy and materials science including metals industry and academia of value / relevance in India with 15 (fifteen) years of professional experience, admitted by the Council of the Institute with reference to each individual case.
Ordinary & Life Member Min. 25yrs. Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or equivalent discipline, OR
AMIIM exams (Part I & II) conducted by IIM with 3 years experience, OR
Masters' degree in Metallurgy or equivalent with 1 year experience, OR
Bachelor / Master degree in other engineering discipline / Ph.D. in Physics / Chemistry / Geology with 5 years experience OR
Diploma in Metallurgy with 5 years experience OR
Diploma in other Engineering Disciplines / B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Geology with at least 7 years experience OR
Degree from recognised University and proposed / recommended by at least 3 Past Presidents of the IIM
Associate & Life Associate
[Applicable to existing Associate Members]
Min. 20yrs. Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or equivalent discipline, OR
AMIIM exams (Part I & II) conducted by IIM OR
Bachelors / Master's degree in other engineering discipline / Ph.D. in Physics / Chemistry / Geology with at least 2 years experience OR
Diploma in Metallurgy with at least 3 years experience OR
Diploma in Engineering other than Metallurgy / B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Geology with at least 4 years experience.
Professional Open Shall be such other persons as are directly engaged in the promotion of science and art of making ,shaping and treating of metals and alloys for a period of not less than 10 years who in the opinion of the Council are qualified for membership.
OR
Any person who is not eligible for Membership of the Institute in any other way, but whose association with the Institute will in the view of the Committee be useful to the Institute may be elected as a Professional Member.
IIM Membership Categories for Students
Student Member: A candidate for admission into student member category, shall be a person, who is being educated or being trained for and who intends to adopt a profession in engineering [any specializations], scientific research, academics/ related fields . Student members will automatically become Associate Members as soon as they acquire necessary qualifications

Eligibility Criteria :
Passed Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Physics Chemistry and Mathematics with at least 2 years of Industrial Experience.
OR
B.Sc. with any subject combination after passing Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Physics Chemistry and Mathematics.
OR
Holding Diploma in Engineering after passing Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Physics Chemistry and Mathematics.
OR
Studying Diploma in any fields of engineering
OR
Studying Bachelor’s Degree in engineering in any disciplines or equivalent
OR
Studying M.S., M.Tech., M.E or equivalent in any fields of engineering
OR
pursuing Ph.D.
OR
Studying M.S., M.Tech., or equivalent in Science or pursuing Ph.D.

Category Age Eligibility Criteria
Student Member (Studying Met.) Open Studying Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Can be a student member till completion of Degree.
Student Member (Studying Dip.) Open Studying Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering. Can be a student member till completion of Degree.
Student Member (Studying other than Met.) Open Studying Bachelor's Degree in Engineering other than Metallurgy. Can be a student member till completion of Degree.
Student Affiliate Member Open A member of a Student Affiliate Chapter of the Institute.
